While Plano ISD seems to be struggling to keep their students safely on campus during the school day, the District recently invested in keeping the School Board and Administrative Cabinet safely on the dais during their meetings at the Administration Building.
Photos began showing up on social media starting at the end of March 2024 that show what looks to be DIY, wooden barricades installed on either side of the Board’s dais.

#LeveledUp Security

The presence of these new barriers seems unusual. Aside from questioning if this is what the Board considers an effective security measure, with no recent protests or contentious items up for debate, one would wonder why the Board and the District are taking these precautionary steps and if these are the same subpar security standards they are using to protect our schools.
As they continue their clandestine discussions during closed sessions about school closures and other potentially triggering topics, these new physical barriers may just be a manifestation of the cultural barriers they’ve established between themselves and their stakeholders.
Also, one could infer the Board has an expectation of trouble ahead. It’s only a matter of time before we find out how they will betray public trust again and how well their physical and metaphoric barriers hold up.
