It’s that time of year again.

Students are enjoying their final days of summer break. Teachers are back on campus preparing for school to start next week. Parents are getting ready for tax-free, back-to-school shopping this weekend.

But before all the (taxpayer-funded) hoopla and fanfare that is sure to kick-in from Plano ISD next week, let’s take a look at what they’re hoping you won’t notice.

• Student Safety Failures, Abuse Cover-Ups
  • In July, a long-time Plano ISD elementary teacher was arrested and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child and three counts of indecency with a child. A lawsuit filed shortly thereafter alleges that despite advanced warning, Plano ISD allowed the teacher to remain in the classroom, no meaningful investigation occurred, no additional safeguards were put into place, and  Plano ISD failed to report those earlier allegations to law enforcement and the Texas Education Agency as they are required to do by law.
  • This aligns with a public comment made by a former Plano ISD Trustee who claims that during his tenure the district “lied” to him and covered up sexual misconduct by educators.
  • In a separate and also horrific case caught on video, a Plano ISD family brought awareness to the treatment of their child while she was in the school district’s care. Warning: this video of the incident is very difficult to watch.
• Retaliation Against Parent Volunteers
  • A lawsuit filed in May 2026 alleges Plano ISD orchestrated the hijacking of an independent booster club and the false and malicious arrest of its parent-officers over a fight to control the club and its funds. The suit seeks to prove the school district overstepped its authority.
• Potentially Hazardous Learning Environment & Neglect
  • Students, teachers, and parents reported musty odors, humidity, and concerns about possible mold in parts of Murphy Middle School. As part of a discussion about this, a Plano ISD trustee expressed concerns about HVAC maintenance protocols across the school district.
  • Over the summer (July), a report surfaced of Renner Middle School also supposedly having a mold issue and parents reported seeing mold remediation crews at Schimelpfenig Middle School.
  • A lawsuit was filed after Plano ISD allegedly did not respond to an open records request related to the mold issue at Murphy Middle School.
  • Another lawsuit may be coming due to the detrimental impacts of mold exposure.
• Massively Redacted Public Records Requests Lack Transparency & Accountability
  • Adding to the injury of the mold at Murphy Middle School, reporting shows that Plano ISD responded to public information requests at that school with responses so heavily redacted that they raise suspicions that the district is hiding material information.
• Systemic Antisemitism
  • Numerous complaints have been launched – both through formal investigative channels and on social media – about systemic antisemitism in Plano ISD, contrary to the two to five incidences Plano ISD guesstimated to the public. The Texas Attorney General and the Texas Education Agency both launched investigations into the matter. Just before the school year ended in May, yet another antisemitic incident was publicly reported at Plano West Senior High School.
• Desperately Seeking Teachers
  • If you’ve noticed advertisements trying to recruit teachers for Plano ISD in places never seen before, you’re not alone – from video clips at movie theaters to out-of-state venues. Why is a district of excellence recruiting teachers during previews before a movie screening?
• Multi-Million Dollar Budget Deficit
  • For the past seven consecutive years Plano ISD has adopted a budget deficit. This year’s $44.8 MILLION budget deficit is the highest yet. There’s only so much money in reserve to continue covering these annual deficiencies.
• Controlled Community Feedback
  • As previously reported, the Plano ISD Board of Trustees has eliminated the public’s opportunity to address the entire board in person about concerns that are not on the agenda. In years past, if you had something you wanted to speak publicly to the board about, you could speak to them at their board meetings. Not any more. If it’s not on the agenda, you’re out of luck.
  • And if there is an agenda item you wish to address, be prepared that when you speak, your backside is what they record instead of the person speaking and the people being spoken to.

Despite its severe leadership failures, Plano ISD does still have some phenomenal educators who are also victims of this off-the-rails administration. Teachers are impacted when:
– their work environments are unsafe,
– students feel unprotected and vulnerable,
– parents are afraid to volunteer,
– discrimination is pervasive, and
– they personally and professionally fear retribution should they dare to speak up about their concerns.

School board, unless you change leadership, this will be your #DistrictMade legacy.
